I AM writing to comment on the article “Be part of the solution” (NST, May 1). I agree with the article that we should not depend on the private and public sectors to provide jobs, but to look at ways to be self-employed.
Although the country manager of Jobstreet.com was quoted as saying that there were more than 27,000 jobs on the website, many people remain unemployed.
One of the reasons is the difficulty in finding jobs that match candidates’ skills.
If the jobs are not related to graduates’ fields, they should accept the positions given. They should consider it as a stepping stone and a way to boost their curriculum vitae.
Other than that, looking for jobs is not the only solution to the problem of unemployment.
Self-employment and doing your own business are part of the solution.
Many youths have started running their own business either online or in conventional ways. However, planning must be done to prevent losses. The key is don’t give up and keep trying.
